Le cul entre les deux chaises

An American Spaniard in France or: How I Learned to Make an Ass of Myself in Three Cultures

I went to Lyon recently to get winter clothes, but also condiments and spices. Looking at my haul in the kitchen, I was inspired and came up with this.

  • Pork chops — brined for a while, sautéed with soy sauce, garlic and green onions
  • Rice — I always make a mess, but this rice was made in the MICROWAVE
  • Cumin carrots — these are from my grocery store, where they’re located in the “odd food aisle” and they are delish.

Rabies moment: I was in my 30s when I realized that the cooking method where you put food in a pan with butter or oil was the same word as sauter, French for “jump” which is what the food does as you cook it.
