An American Spaniard in France or: How I Learned to Make an Ass of Myself in Three Cultures

Headhunters (2011)

My cinematic year has started off rather well. The Norwegian thriller Hodejegerne (Headhunters) which I first heard about in an interview with Mark Wahlberg on the BBC’s Film Programme and was later repeatedly heralded by the gang over at “the pod” for Empire Magazine is as good as they all said.

The story is about an executive who moonlights as a successful art thief until he steals from the wrong guy. I can’t recommend it enough if you like heist movies, capers and/or black comedies. Very good stuff.

Film recommendations are all good and well, but what possible connection could there be to the parameters I’ve set out for the blog? Why, San Miguel, the least-bad beer in Spain, of course. (Totally not of course. It’s appearance was rather shocking.)

The main character, who makes a point of having “the best” of everything to compensate for his short stature, drinks San Miguel in a contemplative scene where he’s planning his next big job. It’s a really weird choice, stylistically and beer-wise. Does anyone know if San Miguel is a fancy or expensive beer in Norway?Headhunters 1 San Miguel

If none of the above things got you interested in seeing the movie, perhaps an impossibly good-looking Danish actor will? I find that one or two really handsome men usually help.

  1. San Miguel is a beer from the Philippines. What’s it doing in a Norwegian film is beyond me.

tell me something good
